TOP TEN REASONS FOR CV REJECTION

Source Resume Experts
Top ten reasons for CV rejection: We have always heard the Phrase ” First impression is the last impression“. This phrase implies here perfectly because with a CV your first impression count. the recruiter will pay 5 to 15 seconds to your CV and those seconds can either result in selection or rejection of your CV.In order to get you CV selected for the interview, you should master the art of writing a professional CV that`s is relevant to vacancy on which you are applying and you should be aware of the mistakes that can scupper your chances.
From my 10 years experience I have complied these 10 top reasons that resulted in the rejection of the CV.
10) Personal Information: Don`t put too much personal info in your CV that is not relevant to your job as you are wasting the space where some important info could have been added. For example adding you weight, height, religion or marital status in your CV wouldn’t be a good gesture as the recruiter isn’t asking you for a date.
9) Silly Fonts: The golden rule for making a CV is to use readable fonts like Calabria, Arial or times new roman and should always use the black font to give your CV a professional look. But sometimes people use rainbow colors with the text and also go a bit artistic by making different designs, that`s a big NO. Try to keep the text size to be at-least 10 and if the size is further small then CV will give a messy look.
8) Bad Formatting: Majority of the times the recruiters have defined the program formats in which their CVS can be accepted try to follow the defined formats. Also try to make sure that the CV that you sent is also delivered in the right format. Nothing is more distracting and turn off for a hiring manager to read a CV with poor format i.e cut-off descriptions.
Simplest way is to use PDF and keep the format simple as much as possible.
7) Inaccurate Dates: Kindly post the exact dates on you CV. Month and year should match the actual information otherwise an incorrect date can create a confusion that the guy is trying to hide some information.
6) Long paragraphs: nobody is interested in reading the long paragraphs related to your job history, skills or accomplishments. Try to provide relevant information in bullets that will be easy to read and relatively short.
5) Employment Gaps: Many CVS will have employment gaps due to layoffs, downsizing these days. so don’t try to cover the employment gaps by stretching the dates. Beware the employers do check the information provided on the CV. A better way is to mention the actual reason for the employment gap. Creating any confusion in employers mind can give him a reason to think that you are not the best fit for the job.
4) Contact Details: Always make sure that the contact details are accurate so that if a recruiter likes your CV then he should contact you easily. If you have misspell your email address or put wrong digits in phone number then it will be impossible for the employer to contact you and you ll be missing the chance to get interviewed.
3) Meaningless Introductions : you should kickoff your CV by writing what you have excelled and what skills you possess that will help the organization to grow. Don`t start with any quote or such cheap lines. your introduction should be bespoke to the roles that you are applying for.
2) Typos: When ever you are done with CV creation, ask some colleague or friend to proof read the details so as to prevent unnecessary details and to make sure that there are no typos. Image an applicant has mentioned that excellent attention to detail but has typos, spelling mistakes then what impression will it give to hiring managers.
1) Email addresses: As you are applying for a job as a professional, keep in mind to use professional emails having your name. Emails like cute.princess@gmail or inocent_soul@yahoo.com should be use for private use. What a bad luck it would be if you are perfect match for the job but the only hurdle was the funny email address.
